Daguerreotype, 2008

My cameras are constructed from a cigar box and fitted with a Polaroid back. The thickness of cigar box determines focal distance.
My process is simple: make a camera, load film, expose it, and you get a photo. But at the same time, it's magic! If you understand the pinhole phenomena, there is no need to invent complicated machines or theories. When you start seeing the world the way a pinhole camera sees it, everything changes and I cannot describe it. It's a different world that is as simple as life is.

Arunas has studied art for 15 years. He has been a photographer, traveler, rebel, philosopher, poet, and generally calls himself a "freely wandering soul". In 1982, after completing his studies at the Art Academy, Arunas joined the Art Photographers' Union in Lithuania and starting practicing photography seriously.
He traveled through the former Soviet Union, Siberia's mountains, Soviet Asia republics and beyond the Polar Circle near North Sea. He also had his own photo studio teaching youngsters (12-16 years old) photography; everything from mixing chemicals to making emulsions to film processing.
In 1991 Arunas moved to New York, where he now lives and works as a freelance photographer.
He lives with his wife Oksana and 5 years old son Vincent.
