Employment

University for the Creative Arts, Maidstone - Workshop Leader and Technician in the FE photography department. I conducted lessons on contemporary photographers and artists, taught alternative processes from liquid light to toning techniques, instructed students in the use of digital and analogue SLR cameras, computer programmes, tape/slide machines, and medium and large format cameras (for BA students). I also managed the black and white darkroom and photography stores, and daily answered technical and theoretical questions. (Sept 2004 - 2008)

Aim Higher - Taught seven art-specialist school teachers from Kent for a two-day workshop. I wrote the brief entitled Instant Imaging covering photomontage, photograms and cyanotype printing. I led participants in investigating these old techniques and contextualising them within contemporary photographic practice. (June 2007)

Making It - A West Kent Arts Partnership initiative funded by local authorities and Arts Council England. (Sept 2006- 07)

I taught a series of weekly experimental workshops to adults with no art-related background in four towns within West Kent. I covered macro photography, using microscopes to take photographs, underwater photography, pinhole photography, photograms, and cyanotypes. I also taught portfolio presentation, framing and mounting skills. In Maidstone, these workshops culminated in me selecting work and curating an exhibition for the students at Maidstone Museum.

Widening Participation - Teaching children from schools ages 15-17 photographic skills ranging from pinhole photography to liquid light as a taster day workshop. (Oct 2007)

Rochester School of Mathematics I taught the theory and practice of pinhole photography to students aged 11-18 on a Gifted and Talented programme for two days. (Jun 2007)

Aim Higher - Taught photographic workshops for a one-week art summer school for vulnerable students with various disabilities and learning difficulties. (July 2006)

Paul Dixon Photography - Photographic Assistant. I took responsibility for setting up flash and tungsten lighting on location and in the studio. I used a variety of digital large and medium format cameras, processed the final image and manipulated it in Photoshop. The work I assisted with varied from catalogue shots to landscape gardens. (2004)

Clifton Pro-Lab - I played a major role in the daily running of a professional processing laboratory where my duties included colour and black and white processing and black and white and R-type prints to exhibition standards. I also copied flat artwork and performed slide duplication. (2000-2001)

Redland Photography - I assisted a photographer who specialised in industrial and architectural photography, helping to take images of scale models and producing architectural blueprints. (1999-2000)
